Greta Hennessy
Shiatsu Teacher, Practitioner and Composer

About Greta

I am a shiatsu teacher, mother, and composer, and shiatsu has been the thread weaving through my life’s path.

My early training was in music, studying at Dartington College of Arts in 1999, where I played piano and bansuri. That sense of listening — to rhythm, tone, and what sits beneath the surface — continues to shape how I work today.

With over 20 years of experience, I support people in developing a deeper understanding of themselves, working with both physical and emotional imbalances by gently uncovering what sits at the root.

I founded Wild Light Shiatsu School in 2019, and much of my work is devoted to the community around me — holding courses, offering treatments, and continuing to make music. My approach draws from a blend of Eastern philosophy and lived, practical experience, offering something grounded and relevant for the world we’re in now.

Through raising my own children and moving through the emotional landscape that comes with it, shiatsu has remained a constant source of support and balance. I teach from lived experience, and aim to offer a space that feels both real and deeply supportive.

Lineage

My work has been shaped by a number of teachers and approaches that continue to inform how I practise and teach.

I trained in Shiatsu with Oliver Cowmeadow in 2004, and have deepened my understanding through further years study in Pregnancy and Birth with Suzanne Yates in 2016.

My approach is also influenced by trauma-informed work with Bill Palmer and Theresa Hadland, as well as Clean Language with Nick Pole, which has refined how I listen and support people in finding their own meaning and language.

In 2025, I completed a year-long training with Keith Phillips, exploring relational wounds are held in the body and how they can be met through shiatsu.

Alongside this, my background in music creates the deep listening quality that I use in all of my work with clients and students.
